EAST PEORIA — The Illinois State Board of Education and the No Kid Hungry program are recruiting not-for-profit organizations to host summer feeding programs in Tazewell County.

An information meeting will be at 1 p.m. Feb. 23 at Hampton Inn, 11 Winners Way.

Federally funded summer feeding programs pick up where National School Lunch Programs leave off. During the school year, schools provide free and reduced-price meals to needy children. The USDA Summer Food Service Program provides free meals to children up to the age of 18.

Five summer feeding programs operated in Tazewell County last summer. But the county needs at least 20 sites to serve the more than 9,000 who receive free and reduced-price meals during the school year, according to the State Board of Education.

To register, contact Suzy Lee at slee@gcvfd.org or (773) 843-2604. For more information about the summer feeding program, call the State Board of Education, (800) 545-7892.
