After initially defending moving the Department on Aging from state-owned space to a rented building, the Quinn administration today suspended the move.

"The Department on Aging's relocation out of the Herndon building has been suspended to allow for additional review of the situation," said Alka Nayyar, spokeswoman for the Department of Central Management Services.

CMS is the leasing agent for the state.

The Herndon Building is owned by the state. Most of Aging's employees are located there, although additional workers are stationed in the Department of Revenue building.

Aging planned to move out of those buildings into leased space at 300 W. Jefferson St. The lease cost more than $532,000 a year.
