Golfers secure top-five finish at Quincy

Washington posted a high finish in its first full-fledged boys golf tournament of the season.

The Panthers totaled a 405 using five scores Saturday at the Quincy Invitational at Westview Golf Course.

Austin Worner shot an impressive five-over-par 76 to lead Washington, which edged sixth-place Quincy Notre Dame by two strokes.

Right behind Worner was Sam Norbom with a 77.

Panther Nick McClellan carded an 81 and Trevor Underwood an 82.

The final Washington sum was complete with Cody Smock’s 89.

Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin, with a 381, was four ahead of runner-up Edwardsville for the team championship. 

Home opener today:
Washington’s first home match of the year is at 3:30 p.m. today at Fairlakes Golf Course against Manual.

The Panthers faced Metamora, which is coming off a 14th-place showing in the Coyote Creek Classic, yesterday in Washburn.
