Five golfers shoot 37 or better at Fairlakes

The Washington boys golf team whipped East Peoria Aug. 24.

In the Mid-Illini Conference opener for both schools, the Panthers recorded an impressive 148 at Quail Meadows Golf Course to defeat the Raiders by 28 shots.

Austin Worner scorched the par-36 front nine with a medalist-winning 33.

Tyler Johnson was at level-par with a 36, while Zach Jacobs and Austin Wileman carded 39s.

The Panthers also won the junior varsity competition, 163-201, as Cory Cooper was the low scorer with a 38.

WCHS 162, Manual 196
The Panthers drilled the Rams Aug. 25 at Fairlakes Golf Course.

Getting a variety of younger players involved, Washington was led by Johnson, who submitted a 39.

Kody Dexheimer had a 40, Wileman a 41 and Cooper a 42 on the par-35 front nine.

In an incomplete JV result, Chase Greenwood registered the best round with a 44 for the Panthers.

WCHS 142, Dunlap 145
The Panthers held off the Eagles Thursday at home.

Three-time defending conference champion Washington improved to 2-0 and handed one of its expected challengers a week-one loss.

Playing the par-32 back nine in Secor, scores were extremely low on both sides.

Worner had a 33, one stroke behind the low round of the afternoon.

Jacobs and Zach Cronkhite had 36s and Wileman and Hank Stolz both contributed 37s.

In a 161-179 JV victory, Cooper paced the Panthers with a 38.
