Water Jets begin season with 140 swimmers registered

Summertime fun: The Washington Water Jets start the summer swim season with a robust 140 members on the team. Washington opens its competitive campaign tomorrow at 6 p.m. at Washington Park Pool against Metamora.

The Washington Water Jets swim team began its 2008 season with practice June 4.

There are 140 registered swimmers on the team, which opens its home season June 19 vs. Metamora. The summer campaign runs through July 26.

The Water Jets coaching staff is employed by the Washington Park District. The team is run by a volunteer parent board.

The head coach is Colleen Sheridan. She is assisted by John Wright and Brie Buck.

Practices and home meets are at the Washington Park Pool.

Other home-meet dates are: June 26 (Wedgewood), July 1 (Morton), July 8 (Eureka), July 15 (Tremont) and July 22 (Pekin).

Road dates include: June 21 (Eureka Invitational), June 24 (Roanoke), June 28 (Greater Peoria Family YMCA Summer Invite), July 10 (El Paso), July 17 (Lexington), July 19 (Journal Star Summer Championship), July 24 (Lake
Camelot) and July 26 (Tazewell County, at Tremont).
