The Central softball team continued its winning season with two great games in a doubleheader sweep against Normal Kingsley Aug. 9.
Kingsley jumped on top of the Trojans with a first-inning run, however, Central’s bats came alive in the third inning when it scored three runs.
Madi McCoy and Lexi Carlsten reached base and then eighth grader Nikki Maxheimer came up with a big RBI single.
Central scored more runs in the fourth and sixth innings in a 5-2 final.
Maxheimer was the top hitter, going 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Ashley Leavitt, Rachel Hendrickson, and Carlsten each had hits for Central.
Carlsten also made a diving catch in the outfield to help Central gain another win.
Dara Megyesi remained the ace in the circle with seven strikeouts against a good-hitting Kingsley.
In game two, Central got on top, scoring three runs in the first inning.
Kingsley came back to score four times in the bottom of the first, but Central kept up its hitting and scored four runs.
The hitting match was back-and-forth until Central came away with a two-run win.
Top hitters for Central included Ashley Leavitt 2-for-2, Addison Baele 2-for-3 with an RBI, McCoy 2-for-3 with four RBI, Shelby Lee 1-for-3 with an RBI and Liz Foster 1-for-2.
McCoy got the win for the Trojans in the circle, striking out nine.
Vs. Eureka, Aug. 10
The Trojans defeated the Hornets, 10-0, in five innings in their first conference game.
Leadoff hitter Ashley Leavitt came up big for Central, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a triple.
Next in line, Rachel Hendrickson was 2-3 with an RBI. Carlsten stayed perfect on the day, going 2-for-2 with two RBI.
Maxheimer kept up her timely hitting by producing two RBI for the Trojans.
Another eighth grader, Zoe Wetherell, was 1-for-3 with four RBI.
Winning pitcher Megyesi helped herself out by going 1-for-2 at the plate. In the circle, Megyesi only allowed two hits and struck out five.
Vs. Dee-Mack, Aug. 12
In the second conference game of the week, Central won, 4-2.
Dee-Mack scored the first run of the game in the top of the second inning.
Central responded in the bottom of the third, scoring three runs.
Leavitt led off the inning with a single, then Rachel Hendrickson reached on a fielder’s choice. McCoy, Maxheimer and Wetherell each followed with singles for the Trojans.
Leavitt, Maxheimer and Wetherell were the top hitters for the Trojans.
