Austin Fisher gained a significant statewide football honor.
The 2008 Washington Community High School graduate was selected to play in the Illinois High School All-Star football game.
The 34th annual contest, conducted this year at 6:30 p.m. July 26 at Peoria Stadium, features players from throughout the state.
The matchup of East and West teams is sponsored by the Mohammed Shriners along with the Illinois Coaches Association.
Fisher, a second-team all-Mid-Illini Conference football selection at Washington in 2007, is on the West.
Fisher's teammates from the M-I include: Joe Cicciarelli and Joe Cruz of Dunlap and Metamora's Brad Herman and Adam Duvendack.
Fisher finished his Panther career with the most completions (201) as well as single-season all-time marks for yards (1,560) and completions (99).
The quarterback will continue his football career in the fall at McKendree University.
Washington was 7-4 last year and reached the second round of the Class 5A playoffs.
There is a week of activities for the all-star players leading up to the game.
On Tuesday, the players check in at Eureka College and endure their first practice, along with meeting the media.
After an all-day practice July 23, the players and coaches go July 24 to the Shrine Hospital in Chicago to visit with patients.
All the proceeds from the game go the Shrine Hospitals for Children, which treat children under 18 years old with orthopedic problems.
The all-star group returns for a cookout that night. The awards banquet occurs at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
Fisher is sponsored locally by Lindy's, Scott Underwood, Sola Azteca, the WCHS Panthers Booster Club and the 12th Man Organization.
Additionally, the Washington cheerleaders will cheer for the West team.
