Washington, Ill. -

The Washington girls basketball team doubled up Dunlap Jan. 26.

The Lady Panthers routed the Eagles, 54-27, at Torry Gymnasium to stay on track in Mid-Illini Conference play.

Washington completed its first season sweep of Dunlap since 2005-06.

Prior to this year, the Eagles won five straight meetings in the series.

Lexi Grayer led all scorers with 16 points and Lady Panther teammate Lindsey Boyer added 15.

Washington allowed Dunlap, the M-I’s seventh-place team, only 32 points per game this winter.

Danielle Langan topped Dunlap with eight points.

Moriah Peterson had six points for the Lady Panthers and six others scored for a team that was never threatened after a 16-8 first-quarter advantage.

The Lady Panthers persevered through a rough start Saturday afternoon on Senior Day to sweep the conference series from the Rockets.

Washington (14-8, 7-4) moved into a second-place tie with Limestone in the league standings.

Metamora clinched at least a share of its fourth M-I crown in the last eight years with a win the same day at East Peoria.

The Lady Panthers are 11-3 over their last 14 games. The home win was their fifth in a row.

Grayer and Boyer combined for seven three-pointers to tally 17 points apiece, good for game-high honors.

Peterson was 6-of-6 at the free-throw line to register 13 points. The squad was 14-of-18 overall at the stripe.

Grayer, Boyer, Peterson, Dani Frye and Taylor Lester were the Washington seniors recognized.

The Rockets led 12-0 after one quarter, but the Lady Panthers responded with a 34-15 margin over the next 16 minutes.

Washington defeated Limestone for the fifth straight time in the regular season.

Felicia Johnson’s 14 points topped the Rockets, who are playing the rest of the year without star Natecia Augusta.

Postseason: Washington is a No. 3 seed in the Class 3A Woodruff Regional.

The Lady Panthers will face No. 6 seed East Peoria in the quarterfinals at 8 p.m. Feb. 15.

The winner will meet second-seeded Notre Dame at 8 p.m. Feb. 17.

Defending state champion Richwoods is the No. 1 seed.

The Knights and Washington were scheduled to play last night in Peoria.
