There’s big numbers and unbeaten seasons, then there’s 53-0.

Dunlap senior Victor Spolidorio completed the best high school season ever by a Peoria-area player by defeating Natan Spear of Chicago Northside (6-1, 6-4) to win the first IHSA Class 1A state singles title. The first tennis state championship by a Peoria-area player helped the Eagles claim the 1A team title.

The Three-time Journal Star Boys Tennis Player of the Year and four-time all-stater finished his career 171-15 overall (153-12 in singles). Of the 106 sets played his senior year (88 in singles, 18 in doubles), Spolidorio lost just one — to Class 2A state singles runner-up Danilo Kovacevic of Park Ridge Maine South. He won 59 sets and 23 matches without giving up a game.

As a freshman at Northern Illinois University, Spolidorio won the consolation bracket in Flight Four of the Mid-America Indoor Invitational in November.
