Defending champ: Dunlap.
Outlook: The meet features champions from the Mid-Illini and Western Big 6 conference meets. M-I champ Dunlap, ranked ninth in the state, will be going for its fourth straight sectional title, having finished ahead of Big 12 runner-up Notre Dame the last two seasons. The Eagles won five events last year and have plenty of talent and depth to win it again. They won seven events in the Mid-Illini Invitational meet two weeks ago. Dunlap senior Emma Theobald, Journal Star Girls Co-Swimmer of the Year last season, is the defending sectional champion in the 200 IM and the 100 backstroke. She will be swimming in the 100 butterfly and the 100 backstroke. Dunlap junior Savannah Sowards is the returning champ in the 100 butterfly, while her younger sister, freshman Elizabeth Sowards, leads the area in both the 50 freestyle and the 100 freestyle. Notre Dame junior Ashton Amerman won both the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle sectional titles last season.
At Normal West

Teams: Bloomington, Canton, Clinton, Downs Tri-Valley, Lincoln, Illini West, Metamora Co-op, Normal West, Normal Community, Normal U-High, Pekin Co-op, Peoria High, Manual, PORTA Co-op, Pontiac Co-op, Olympia, Washington Co-op.
Defending champ: Normal U-High.
Outlook: Normal Community, ranked fifth in the state, won the Big 12 title two weeks ago, and should be favored to knock off defending champion Normal U-High. The Ironmen won six events in the Big 12 meet and finished second in last year's sectional. Metamora has two-time Journal Star Girls Swimmer of the Year Noelle Peplowski. She is the defending sectional champion in both the 200 IM and 500 freestyle, but will be competiting in the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke this year. Peplowski won the 100 breast state title as a freshman. Pekin’s Kelen McDaniels won the 50 freestyle last season and will be trying to qualify for state in both the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle events for the third straight season.
