FARMINGTON — The championship game of the Class 2A Farmington Sectional will have a lot of heart.
Heart of Illinois Conference rivals Eureka and Deer Creek-Mackinaw will meet for the championship here at 6 p.m. Wednesday after both won semifinals Monday night.
Eureka (29-7) beat host Farmington 25-21, 25-17 behind 20 kills and 14 digs from Courtney Heffren. Maddie McCunn added 29 assists for the Hornets.
Dee-Mack (29-6-1) remains in line for its fourth sectional title in five seasons with a 25-8, 25-22 win over Illini West. Carson Smalley ahad 10 kills and four aces for Dee-Mack. Lydia Wiegand added 13 digs and Morgan Burr 14 assists.
In their regular-season matchup, Eureka beat Dee-Mack 25-17, 25-27, 25-22 on Oct. 3.
Bailey Shymansky had 14 digs and five kills to lead Farmington (18-12). Illini West ends at 18-19 having won its first regional as a consolidation (Carthage won in 2005). Hannah Wood led IW with five kills. Mackenzie Duffy added 16 digs.
