EUREKA — Eureka fell to El Paso-Gridley 26-23 in a Heart of Illinois Conference football game on Friday.

Josh Faulk had a 1-yard rushing touchdown to put EP-G ahead 7-0 in the first quarter. Faulk added a 3-yard rushing TD to push the Titans (5-4, 2-3) lead to 14-0 in the second quarter.

Eureka's Jake Bachman cut the deficit to 14-7 in the second quarter with a 76-yard run.

Dylan Reeves (8-yard run) and Lukas Kiefer (28-yard run) pushed the EP-G lead to 26-7 in the third.

Bachman added a 12-yard pass to Preston Stahl and 39-yard pass to Alex Brittain as the Hornets (6-3, 3-2) cut the deficit to 26-21 in the fourth.

Eureka had a safety in the closing seconds to set the final score 26-23.

Bachman had 17 carries for 118 rushing yards, while going 7-of-13 with 137 passing yards.

The Hornets earned consecutive playoff berths for the first time since 2002 and 2003. Eureka also won six or more games in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 1988 and 1989.
