DECATUR — The Eureka girls golf team is in eighth place after the first round of the Class 1A girls state golf finals at Red Tail Run Golf Course on Friday afternoon.
The Hornets, in their first appearance at the state finals in school history, posted a 361 team total to sit three shots behind seventh-place Bloomington Central Catholic (358). Macomb (384) is in 11th.
Eureka junior Carolyn Pacocha shot 9-over par 81 and is in a tie for 18th place, while teammate senior Hayley Coffman is tied for 32nd after shooting an 84.
Kewanee sophomore Riley Hansen is tied for third place with 77, while Macomb sophomore Emma Thorman is tied for 18th with an 81.
Rockford Lutheran (333) is first in the team standings, while Metropolis Massac County (336) is in second. Pinckneyville junior Megan Breslin and Pontiac junior Ali Schrock are tied for first place individually with 3-over 75s.
In Class 2A, Winnetka New Trier posted a 303 team total to take control of first place after the first round at Hickory Point Golf Club in Forsyth.
Barrington is in second place in the team standings after posting a 313.
Matton sophomore Kira Wolf, O'Fallon senior Alyssa McMinn, St. Charles North junior Megan Furtney and Schaumburg senior Trinity Corwin each shot even-par 72 to close out the first round with a four-way tie for first place individually.
