Washington, Ill. -

Just as you strive to improve yourself through New Year’s resolutions, the library is making a few changes in the new year to improve their services.  Beginning this month, the library will send out a reminder notice to patrons’ e-mail accounts to remind them they have items due in a few days. If you would like to benefit from this service, the library will need your current e-mail address. Those who have an e-mail on file with the library will also receive notices for items they have on hold and on overdue materials.

Another change is the library’s new Web page, which will premiere this month and be easier to use than ever before. The new Web site includes special areas for teens and children and information about services offered at the library. The library’s newsletter will also now be available on the Web page and will no longer be mailed to homes in the community. Those needing a traditional copy of the newsletter will still be able to pick one up at the library.

The library has also brought back downloadable E-books and audio books, available on our Web page. This service has been very popular for those with MP3 players and IPods. The E-books will not     download to a Kindle but will to most other similar devices.

Basic computer instruction is now available at the library both on regular PCs and on Macs. You can make a reservation for a half-hour or one-hour session focusing on what you need to know. Call the library for more information at 444-2241.

One service offered in the past is back and newly improved. The Homework Help Center is available Monday to Thursday, 3:30 to 5 p.m. when school is in session. No reservations are needed; students just drop in for help. Retired teachers are providing this wonderful opportunity for our young people.

Please check the library’s Web page for information about upcoming programs and activities at the library, including the adult winter reading program and author Dave Ellis’ program on Feb. 6.
