The Washington Education Association expresses its full support for the upcoming referendum to refurbish and repair Washington Community High School.

We have been impressed with the level of input from our membership, the community and the school board throughout the planning process. Working together, we have developed a plan that truly belongs to the community, because it reflects the values and concerns of everyone who invested time and effort in the process.

With student security and academic opportunities as key priorities, the renovation plan will succeed in updating the high school's facilities at a reasonable cost.

For less than 52 cents per day for the owner of a $200,000 home, we can relieve the overcrowded and inefficient conditions that all students suffer, update our science labs and provide an acceptable level of safety for our students.

The WEA is proud of the work we do on behalf of students; but, as in any other type of employment, we are limited by the tools at our disposal.

A contractor is more efficient with a nail gun than he is with a hammer. An accountant can accomplish more with a laptop than she can with a ledger book. And teachers and students can achieve more when they work in a safe, up-to-date environment.

We ask you to provide the tools we need to continue to prepare Washinton's children as they stop out into the world. We ask you to vote "Yes" for the referendum on April 7.
