TumbleBooks “Electronic Books” for kids can be accessed from any computer at the Washington District Library Web site.

TumbleBooks offers hundreds of interactive children’s books and educational games that enhance and reinforce reading skills.

The younger children (ages 4 to 7) can enjoy animated, talking picture books which teach them the joy of reading in a format they’ll love.

TumbleBooks in the “Storybook” option were created by adding animation, sound, music and narration to existing picture books in order to produce an electronic picture book which you can read, or have read to you.

To help children with their reading, the words being read in the book are also highlighted so you see and hear the words at the same time.

Older children (ages 8 and up) will find the “TumbleReadables” option a great spot to explore.

Choose from the many chapter books available and read along at your own pace. An innovative text slider allows readers to adjust the size of the text, making it more accessible for those who need a larger print.

Chapter books may even be electronically bookmarked so the reader can return to the same page. For those just wanting to listen to a book, choose one from the “Audio Books.”

In the “Language Learning” section, you can even practice French or Spanish by following along with the narrator as a book is being read aloud.

The “Puzzles and Games” option is great fun and also helps reinforce what is learned in school, such as working on parts of speech.

Your Washington District Library’s Web site has a link to the TumbleBook Library. Visit www.washington.lib.il.us, and select Online Resources.

From the list of Online Resources, select Kids Sites. TumbleBooks is the first on the list. Select and enjoy — the kids will love it!
