The community theme of National Library Week, April 11-17, is a perfect opportunity to discover all that your library has to offer everyone throughout the Washington Library District. Lots of exciting activities will be taking place for all ages to enjoy.
A book sale will take place April 9 and 10 and April 12-14 in the meeting room of the main library. Sponsored by the Friends of the Library, it is a great opportunity to purchase books of all kinds at great prices. There is a preview sale 5 to 7 p.m. April 9 for members of Friends or for a $5 donation.
No fines will be charged on any overdue materials returned between April 10-17, unless the item has been sent to collections, then the patron will be responsible only for the collection fee but no fines.
There are many great programs during National Library Week. Children can enjoy a Lapsit Story Time for 2 year olds at the main library at 10:30 April 14; and for ages 4 to 7, there is a stories and craft program 6 p.m. April 15 at the main library.
At the branch, children ages 3-6 can enjoy an open story time at 6:30 p.m. April 13. At 1 p.m. April 17, the puppet show “Little Red Riding Hood” will be presented at the main library. Great family fun!
Teens can plan to attend an ice cream social and board game night 4-6 p.m. April 16 at the main library. Bring toppings to share and create your own tasty sundae.
Also during National Library Week, teens will be giving back to the community by collecting non-perishable food items for WHIP.
Adults can enjoy a Missouri travelogue followed by a Mark Twain presentation by WCHS lit teacher, Dan Zehr, at 7 p.m. April 15 at the main library. Come learn about some terrific vacation ideas that are “close to home.”
So, whether you are listening to a story, playing games or learning about travel, the library is truly a path to discovery, enjoyment and knowledge. Come by and explore your library soon!
