One of the things mentioned during the Route 8 corridor plan presentation by Houseal Lavigne Associates to the Washington city council was different ways to use the available space to attract shoppers to the area.
Of all the ideas, one in particular had my ears perking up.
I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but I’ve kind of been obsessing over a certain pair of shoes lately.
My not-so-subtle hinting paid off, and I received a pair as a birthday gift from my boyfriend.
As co-chairmen of the third annual Washington Fine Arts Festival, we would like to thank those who helped make this event another great success!
A recent survey by TimesNewspapers found that Washington was one of only four public bodies in Woodford, Peoria and Tazewell counties in compliance with the state’s new Freedom of Information Act.
Seven other public bodies were not in compliance. That is a dismal record.
Over the years, I’ve realized that runners are a strange, but definitely fun, bunch. During races, I often find myself combining my love of running with my love of people watching. I mean, what else is there to do while surrounded by a large group of people for 20 minutes to four-and-a-half hours?
The following are some of the more memorable sights I’ve seen during races.
What would you do if you were given $500 with no strings attached?
A Norman Rockwell painting. A perfect picture of small-town America. A great place to live with great people.
I have heard Washington described as all these things and more in the short two years since my husband and I moved to town.
And I have heard a litany of diatribes against Chicago Land and Chicago Land people, of whom I happen to be.
I read that the county formed a sub committee to investigate the possible privatization of the Tazewell County Jail.
Well, the sub committee members can close up shop and go home because two statements by Sheriff Huston printed in the May 29 Pekin Times tell it all.

We have a very nice online tool here in the newsroom that measures our website visits.
Almost three years ago, seven people came together to start the Washington to Peoria St. Jude Run after several years of participating in the Bloomington-Normal to Peoria St. Jude Run. The committee decided that although it was fun to run through our community with the Bloomington team, Washington really needed its own run.
The Summer Reading program at Washington Library has come to a close. Each year the program continues to grow with 1,238 children and teens signed up this year.
Have you noticed a new feature on our websites called “Morning Minutes?”
Fundraising. The word itself is enough to make me crazy right now. There is a ton of work involved and so many causes out there that people who do have a few bucks to part with, can’t always decide whose cause deserves their hard-earned cash.
When I heard that you made the call to The Chamber of Commerce to volunteer three rooms to accommodate the Taste of Washington because of bad weather I felt so proud of your actions.
My usual cynicism turned to “what a great joy to li
