WASHINGTON –  Willard May Jr., 87, died at 2:35 a.m. Thursday, June 26, 2008, at Washington Christian Village in Washington.

He was born July 8, 1920, to Willard and Wilma Lee Parks May Sr.

Surviving are one son, Richard (Jackie) May of Purcellville, Va.; three grandsons; one stepdaughter, Delores Rockey of Peoria; and one stepson, David Brusick of Bumpass, Va.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

He was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran, serving actively for 12 years and 18 years as a reservist.

He served aboard the Coast Guard cutters Northland and Comanche on the North Atlantic, then served on the LST 761 during the invasion of Iwo Jima where he delivered troops and supplies.

He retired from Central Illinois Light Co. after 30 years of service.

He was a member of the German-American Society, where he sang with the Harmonie Singers.  

Services were Monday at Deiters Funeral Home in Washington. The Rev. David Garner officiated.

Visitation preceded services. Burial was in Hillcrest Memory Gardens in Morton, where military rites were conducted by the United States Coast Guard.

Memorials may be made to Sunnyland Church of the Nazarene or Washington Christian Village.
