Elizabeth Louise James Stringfellow, 89, of Washington, died at 3:52 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 29, 2010, at Methodist Medical Center after a long illness.
Born May 23, 1921, to Kate Louise Buck and Warren Allen James in Ansonia, Conn., she married Arthur Stringfellow Aug. 27, 1949 in Ansonia. He died Jan. 21, 2006 in Peoria.
She was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1944 to 1946, including a 2 year tour of duty in the Philippines during and after World War II.
After the war, she worked for the State of Connecticut’s school lunch program for one year.
Surviving are three children, Steven James of Washington, Ray Charles of Arlington, Va. and Dr. Grace Stringfellow, M.D. of Amarillo, Texas.
Services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Crossroads United Methodist Church. The Rev. Tom Goodell will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Mason-White Funeral Home and thirty minutes prior to services at the church.
Cremation rites will be accorded following services on Thursday. Burial of ashes will be at a later date at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield.
