Howard M. Uphoff, 84, died at 4:35 a.m. Monday, March 1, 2010, at his home in Washington.
Born in Rutland Oct. 20, 1925, to Benjamin and Fern Alma Lynch Uphoff, he married Donna Smith Nov. 6, 1949, in Wenona. She survives.
Also surviving are four children, Kevin (Alma) Uphoff of Escondido, Calif., Dirk (Helen) Uphoff of Peoria, Ariz., Lisa Uphoff of Peoria and Penny Zimmerman of Washington; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theatre during World War II as a radio operator.
Uphoff was employed by Caterpillar Inc. for more than 38 years before retiring in 1983 from the parts facility in Morton.
Services were Thursday at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Washington. The Rev. John Bates officiated. Visitation was Wednesday at Mason-White Funeral Home and preceded services in the family life center of St. Mark’s.
Burial was in Glendale Cemetery in Washington. Military rites were accorded by the Rutland American Legion.
