WASHINGTON — George Leach Stone, 75, formerly of Wausau, Wis., died Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010, at Toulon Health Care Center in Toulon.
Born June 22, 1934, in Wausau, Wis., to Mr. and Mrs. Norman S. Stone, he married Mary Louise Fink Feb. 20, 1960, in Oshkosh, Wis.
George is survived by his wife, Mary Fink Stone of Washington.
In addition, George will be missed by his two daughters, Lizbeth “Liz” Stone of Louisville, Ky., and Jennifer Tallman of Washington; Jim Tallman; M.E. Delano; and all his other dearest family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Norman S. Stone.
George received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and earned the CPCU professional designation in the insurance industry. He worked at Wausau Insurance from 1959 to 1994, where he was a vice president of broker operations.
A faithful and humble servant of the Lord, George was an elder at the First Presbyterian Church in Wausau, Wis. He also was a former president of the Performing Arts Foundation in Wausau, and former president of Crossroads. He was a member of the Wausau Club and the Wausau Country Club. George was also a devout Mason and past master of the Masonic Lodge in Wausau, Wis. In addition, he served as an active Shriner.
Cremation rites were accorded and a memorial visitation was Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010, at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. Local services will be private. A memorial service and inurnment will be in Wausau, Wis., at a later date.
Memorials may be made to Shriner’s Hospital for Children in Minneapolis, Minn., or to Heartland Healthcare Center in Canton. Donations for Mr. Stone may be mailed to Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory, 2075 Washington Road, Washington, IL 61571.
