WASHINGTON – Landis A. “Lanny” Hirstein, 69, died at 2:15 p.m. Saturday, June 14, 2008, at his residence.
Born July 14, 1938, in Pontiac to Eldon and Eileen Fritch Hirstein, he married Paige “Penny” Vohland Dec. 24, 1958, in Washington. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Tracy (Rodney) Joos of Peoria Heights and Tammy (Tony) Forbes of Wildwood, Fla.; one granddaughter; one brother, Roger (Dana) Hirstein of East Peoria; and his sister-in-law, JoAnne (Howard) Zachman of Clermont, Fla.
He owned Studio Royal Photography Studio in the 1960s, and was the publisher for the Tazewell Reporter in Washington in 1968.
He was a professional dog handler from the 1960s until 2000 and was a judge for the American Kennel Club Dog Show from 2000 to the present.
He started his own dog shampoo company, Pro-Line Winning Ways Inc., in 1976.
He was a member of the Cornbelt Kennel Club in Bloomington and the Montgomery County Kennel Club. He was also a past president of the American Miniature Schnauzer Club.
Services were Tuesday at Deiters Funeral Home in Washington. The Rev. John Hauck officiated.
Visitation was Tuesday at the funeral home. Cremation rites were accorded.
