Erma J. Opperman, 90, of Morton, passed away Monday, May 15, 2017, at Apostolic Christian Restmor in Morton.
Erma was born April 30, 1927, in Goodfield, Ill., to August and Nettie (Rocke) Knapp. She married Kenton C. Opperman on Nov. 22, 1950, in Eureka. Kenton preceded her in death on Jan. 5, 2000. Erma was also preceded in death by two brothers, Marvin and Jim Knapp.
Surviving are one son, Dr. Erik (Krista) Opperman of Morton, one daughter, Linda Tooley of Peoria; five grandchildren, David (Rebecca) Opperman, Jonathan (fiancé, Meredith Whitman) Opperman, Kate (Uriah) Kilgallin, Paul Tooley, and Sarah (Collin) Price; and four great-grandchildren, Charles and James Opperman, and Lydia and Anna Kilgallin. Erma is also survived by one sister, Fern Davis.
Erma was a homemaker. Before starting a family, she worked as a secretary at Caterpillar Inc.
She was a member of the Chancel Choir at the Morton United Methodist Church. Erma was also a member of the Society of Engineers Wives and a member of the Morton Community Chorus.
She will- always be remembered for her cheerful smile and joyful laugh.
A funeral service was held at 10 a.m., at Morton United Methodist Church in Morton on Friday, May 19, 2017, with Pastor Gary Motta officiating. Visitation was from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 18, at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton and 9 to 9:45 a.m., at the church prior to the service on Friday. Burial will be in Roberts Cemetery in Morton.
Memorials may be made to the Morton United Methodist Church, Central Illinois Memorial Kidney Foundation, or to Apostolic Restmor in Morton.
