Karla L. Young, 61, of Morton, passed away Saturday, April 15, 2017, at her residence.

Karla was born Dec. 9, 1955, in Peoria, to Charles and Reba (Roberts) Wilson. She married Steve Young on July 4, 1975, in East Peoria.          

Karla is survived by her husband, Steve, of Morton; one son, Steve (Erin) Young of Washington; one daughter, Lindsay (Andy) Cox of Owatonna, Minn.; and five grandchildren, whom she loved to spend time with, Emerson Young, Anna, Ava, Casen, and Samuel Cox. Also surviving are her parents of Morton; two sisters, Denise (Duane) Carter of Romance, Ark., and Amy (Jim Monast) Hayes of Dublin, Ohio, as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Karla graduated from Morton High School in 1974.

She worked at Beverly Manor and John L. Hensey elementary schools in Sunnyland for 26 years.

Karla dedicated her life to God. She faithfully served the Lord throughout her life and took great pride in teaching Sunday School at East Peoria Church of Christ for many years. 

Karla was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and daughter who will be dearly missed by many. She always looked forward to entertaining her family and friends during the holidays, especially during the Pumpkin Festival.

Her seamstress and decorating abilities never went unnoticed. She was an avid gardener and always enjoyed shopping.

A funeral service was held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 22, 2017, at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton, with Bryan Reeves and Jeremy Picker officiating.  Visitation was from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, April 21, at the funeral home.  Further visitation was held on Saturday, 10 to 11 a.m., prior to the service.  Burial will be held in Hirstein Cemetery in Morton.

The family very much appreciates all of the support, prayers, and love shown from family and friends throughout her journey. The family also extends their gratitude to the nurses and doctors from Illinois CancerCare and UnityPoint hospice for their continuous compassion, care, and guidance.
