A boil order has been issued in Washington due to a water main break in the 100 block of West Jefferson Street.

Areas east of Hillcrest Drive and east of Dallas Road should boil any water for consumption including drinking, cooking and washing dishes by hand until further notice.

It is unknown when the boil order will be lifted. According to city controller Joan Baxter, a water sample analysis will be sent to the EPA for testing later today. City engineer Ken Newman expects to get a response from the lab within 24 to 48 hours.

The city is also asking for residents to conserve use of water and limit it to what is only necessary as the supply of water is significantly decreased.
