Early in 2011 the combined school boards of all of the Washington Township Schools (Washington Community
High School, Washington District 52, Washington District 50 and Central District 51) commissioned a
committee of 8 members (two from each District) to study the concept of consolidation.
On February 28 this group heard from experts in the field, including Norm Durflinger, as to how to proceed in this review: what to expect, what we need to provide, and the time involved. The committee hosted its first
meeting on March 30 to select a slate of officers and organize. On May 23 the committee selected
Midwest School Consultants to perform a Consolidation Feasibility Study. The study process began with
a presentation on October 3rd to the committee to review the data gathering process, timelines, and
answer questions.
Over that last few months Midwest School Consultants has worked to complete the data gathering
process and the initial review of the information.
However, further analysis in many areas that support
a recommendation to either consolidate or not to consolidate is being requested by the Consolidation
Committee. Specifically, further information is being requested to provide a full financial analysis and
review of benefits, facilities best use analysis, and curriculum analysis.
Consequently, it is premature to
hold a meeting and discuss the findings. The meeting for tonight at WCHS in the
commons as previously scheduled is cancelled.
The consolidation committee will work with Midwest School Consultants to complete this process as
soon as possible and at that time a future meeting date will be set.
Any questions or comments can be directed to the Superintendent of any of the four Washington
Township School Districts.
