Washington, Ill. -

Babcook Field is in the dark despite new stadium lights donated by Brian Wisher.

Washington Community High School superintendent Dr. Jim Dunnan said the lights work, but the wiring is undersized.

It is not a problem, he said, unless the football lights and baseball lights are lit at the same time.

“It would cause an overload” Dunnan said.

Universal Sports Lighting is expected to be out to replace the wiring later this week at no cost to the school district.

“I anticipate the repair to be done early next week,” Dunnan said, adding he expects the lights to be ready by the start of football season.

In addition to new lights at the football and baseball fields, school officials are still investigating the possibility of moving the old football lights to the soccer field.
