Dare to Prepare! Disasters can hit anyone at any time. Are you prepared? Help is here.
The fifth annual “Totally Tazewell Senior Fest” will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 8 at the Fon du Lac Park District Administration Center, 201 Veterans Drive in East Peoria.
“Dare to Prepare” is the theme of the free event. Special information on how to prepare for a disaster will be available to all attendees. Answers to what belongs in an emergency survival kit and how to get one will be presented.
Businesses and organizations from Tazewell County and Central Illinois will showcase their services and products for seniors.
“Totally Tazewell is a free event specifically for seniors and those who care for seniors,” said Gina Bartelmay, Tazewell TRIAD board president.
“Tazewell TRIAD is a service organization that focuses on reducing crime against seniors and enhancing law enforcement services to them. TRIAD sponsors programs and events to reduce crime and to educate older citizens about the preventative measures they can take to protect themselves and prepare for emergencies,” Bartelmay added.
According to Bartelmay, many local businesses and organizations will be on hand offering senior safety, health and financial advice along with leisure, retirement options and travel ideas. Social agencies will also be available to advise seniors in areas such as Medicare, prescription drugs and maintaining healthy lifestyles. Lunch and refreshments will be available at minimal cost. Participants can enjoy more than $500 in prizes and freebies at the exhibit booths.
Tazewell County TRIAD promotes the File of Life program.
The File of Life is a card that enables emergency personnel to obtain a quick medical history when the participant is unable to offer one.
The card is held with a magnet to the outside of the refrigerator.
A compact version of the File of Life is also available for the participant to carry in a wallet or purse.
There is no cost to participate in the File of Life. Information on how to obtain the File of Life will be available at the event.
