It was a historic season for the Morton girls cross country team.

The Potters placed ninth in the Class 2A state meet Nov. 3 at Detweiller Park in Peoria, finishing in the top 10 for the first time in three state meet appearances.

Two Morton runners earned all-state honors at the state meet. Senior co-captain Aspen Gordon was 17th and freshman Emma Skinner was 20th.

Other Morton runners at the state meet were senior Meagan Moreno (59th), freshman Adeline Smith (143rd), senior co-captain Abigail Dryden (152nd), senior Emily Klopfenstein (161st) and sophomore Katie Honegger (192nd).

Junior Sam Lange represented the Morton boys cross country team at the state meet. Running as an individual, he finished 51st.

Joel Zehr is Morton’s coach. His assistant coaches are Dave Getz and Joe Zeller.
