Are you ready for some football?

There’s no doubt Pekin football players are ready. So are the cheerleaders, dance team and marching band.

They’ll all participate Friday in the annual Red-White Football Scrimmage at Memorial Stadium.

Here’s the schedule for the admission to free event:

— 5:30 to 6:15 p.m., frosh/soph football team introduction and scrimmage.

— 6:20 to 6:45 p.m., cheerleader introductions and performance.

— 6:45 to 7:10 p.m., dance team introductions and performance.

— 7:10 to 7:20 p.m., marching band performance.

— 7:20 to 7:23 p.m., football youth camp introductions.

— 7:23 to 7:30 p.m., varsity team introductions.

— 7:30 to 8:45 p.m., varsity team scrimmage.

HOME LOSS: The Pekin girls golf team ran into one of the area’s top programs Tuesday in the Dragons’ season opener, and the result was predictable.

Visiting Normal Community beat Pekin 184 to 233 at Lick Creek.

Pekin has just four players on its team and four scores count in a match, so the pressure is on each time the Dragons get on the golf course.

Summer Dick (51) and Madison Raines (52) led Pekin against Normal Community. Sarah Butler (61) and Jaden Rogers (69) also scored for the Dragons.

“Summer and Madison played very good golf for several holes, but they had some big numbers that brought their totals into the 50’s,” said Pekin coach Chris Neville.

“Sarah had a chip to in on No. 7. Jaden struggled with her putting,” Neville said.

Allison Enchalmeyer (38), Mackenzie Biggs (47), Amanda Gravelle (48) and Claire Tevis (51) scored for Normal Community.

The Dragons will return to action at 3:30 p.m. Thursday when they host Peoria Richwoods at Lick Creek.

MEANWHILE AT MORTON: A fall tradition will take place Friday at Morton, mostly at Carper Field. It’s the Cherry and Gray Fall Kickoff. Here’s the schedule:

— 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., concessions available.

— 5:45 p.m., girls tennis scrimmage at tennis courts.

— 6 to 6:30 p.m., frosh/soph football team scrimmage.

— 6 p.m., volleyball team scrimmage in the west gym.

— 6:40 p.m., kiddie camp introductions.

— 7 p.m., introductions of the girls tennis, boys and girls cross country, boys soccer, football, dance, cheerleading, volleyball, boys and girls golf and girls swimming and diving teams (the swim team is a co to op with Washington and East Peoria).

— 7:20 p.m., cheerleading and dance routines.

— 7:30 p.m., varsity football scrimmage.

FIRST OF MANY: It hasn’t taken long for a high school athletics director to announce a schedule change.

New East Peoria A.D. Jay Bowman said Wednesday the East Peoria boys soccer games Monday at Chillicothe IVC will begin later than originally announced.

The frosh/soph game will be at 5 p.m., and the varsity game at 6:30 p.m.

No reason was given for the switches.
