PEORIA — Peoria's airport saw a record for passenger traffic in May, surpassing the previous high mark by nearly 4,000 travelers.
Some 60,261 passengers traveled through Gen. Wayne A. Downing Peoria International Airport in May, besting the 56,470 who went through during May 2014, previously the busiest fifth-month at the facility.
“These are exciting numbers because we’re not even fully into the busy summer travel season,” said airport director Gene Olson in a prepared statement.
The year-to-date travel numbers are 5 percent higher than in 2017, and this March was the busiest single month in the history of the airport.
