PEORIA — Dewberry will design and engineer the new OSF HealthCare headquarters in Downtown Peoria at 124 SW Adams St.

The health care organization announced the choice in a news release Monday morning as it continues work on designating the building on the National Register of Historic Places to ensure it is eligible for historic rehabilitation tax credits for reconstruction of the interior.

When work is complete, at least two years hence, more than 700 OSF employees are expected to work in the building.

“We are excited to take this next step with our new headquarters project,” OSF HealthCare CEO Bob Sehring said in a prepared statement. “It is our goal to return this building to its previous grandeur and we are confident we have chosen a partner in Dewberry to help us accomplish that. While the general public might not see any outwardly visible work at this time, rest assured there is plenty of interior work along with historic documentation taking place. We look forward to sharing this journey with the Peoria community.”

Dewberry, the release said, will "be working with multiple specialty firms throughout Illinois" on the design and engineering work ahead of that historic status determination, which is expected during the summer.

Caterpillar Inc. sold the location — site of the former Chase bank, most recently — to OSF for $1 in January, as well as donated the nearby Peoria Professional Building and the adjacent parking lot. The company also gave $3 million to OSF for developing other amenities on the block, the release said.
