Five points.

That was the Pekin boys basketball team’s offensive production in the first and third quarters Tuesday night in a 53-35 loss on the road to non-conference foe Chatham Glenwood.

“We scored three points in the first quarter and two points in the third quarter. You’re not going to win doing that,” said Pekin coach Jeff Walraven.

The Dragons (4-5) trailed 13-2 after the first quarter. A better second quarter cut the deficit to 19-15, but Glenwood outscored Pekin 16-3 in the third quarter and took a commanding 35-18 lead.

“Most of our shots during the game were within our offense, but we couldn’t knock them down,” Walraven said. “I don’t want to take credit away from Glenwood’s defense, but we just didn’t shoot well.

“We seem to be hot or cold with our shooting. We were cold Tuesday.”

Pekin shot 33 percent from the field (12-for-36) against Glenwood.

In wins last week over Dunlap and Canton, the Dragons shot 62 percent and 54 percent including 15-for-20 for 75 percent in the first half against Canton.

Pekin’s Max Jones dropped in a dozen points against Glenwood. Christian Hill had eight points along with four steals and Jace Link had six points and seven rebounds.

Bradyn Kilby had 15 points and eight rebounds for Glenwood (8-1). Luke Lehnen added 13 points and Will Hanlon had 12 for the Titans.

Next for Pekin is a Mid-Illini Conference game Friday night at Morton. The Dragons are 3-0 atop the Mid-Illini standings. Morton is in a tie for second place at 2-1.

“It’s a big game, a conference game,” Walraven said. “It’s our last game before the (Pekin Insurance Holiday Tournament) so we want to finish that part of our season on a high note.”

The Pekin Insurance tournament is Dec. 27-29. The Dragons will open at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 27 against Arlington Heights Hersey at Hawkins Gym.

Sixteen teams are in the tournament field including No. 1 seed Springfield Lanphier, No. 2 seed Peoria Richwoods, No. 3 seed Lake Zurich and No. 4 seed Moline.
