EAST PEORIA — The “Addams Family” is back, featuring an original story, and it’s every father’s nightmare. Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family – a man her parents have never met. And if that weren’t upsetting enough, Wednesday confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother.

Now, Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done before — keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s ‘normal’ boyfriend and his parents.

The story is told by the Caterpillar Employees Mixed Chorus in their fall production of “The Addams Family - A New Musical Comedy!”

Washington Community High School senior Teslyn Armstrong will play the role of Cleopatra, one of the ancestors of the Addams family.

Armstrong said that the audience can expect “surprises all over the place.”

For Armstrong, the dances are the most exciting part of performing.

“Even though they are hard, it is fun to get into the motions and movements of it all,” Armstrong said. “There are moves that you don’t get at the start, but once you start practicing more you get them. When opening night comes around, you feel like you do it really well.”

This is Armstrong’s second year playing in a Caterpillar Employees Mixed Chorus production. Last year she played four different chorus parts in “The Little Mermaid.”

“I have been singing the majority of my life, but I started acting my fifth grade year,” Armstrong said. “I was in ‘The Whiz’ at Rolling Acres Middle School in Peoria.”

Armstrong’s mom, Heather Armstrong, plays the role of Morticia, the mother of the Addams family.

“Being able to do it with my mom and making new friends along the way has been the best part of this experience,” Armstrong said.
