PAL Health Technologies is showing signs that closure may be around the corner.

The company’s website says, “PAL is no longer accepting or processing orders.” The automated phone system says, “We are still open, but not processing orders.”

Several workers or family members have called the Pekin Daily Times to report that they had been laid off. The Times talked with a PAL receptionist Thursday and was told a PAL official would call by 4 p.m. That call never came.

The company, which is located at 1800 Riverway Drive in Riverway Business Park in Pekin, produces custom orthodics, or shoe inserts, braces and other equipment for orthopedic patients. The company opened in 1975. The company did not return calls this morning for comment.

Laborers Local 231 Business Manager Bob Schroeder said he could not comment at this time because of possible litigation on the matter.

Pekin City Manager Tony Carson said this morning that Pekin resident John McNish at the Pekin City Council meeting mentioned the issues at PAL during the public comment period, but Carson said he had heard nothing about a possible closure prior to McNish’s statement.
