A Pekin house fire resulted in $50,000 in estimated damages and an estimated $10,000 in property loss Saturday afternoon, according to the Pekin Fire Department.

Around 5 p.m., oil for fish was being pre-heated under a carport at 1700 Caroline St., which sits at the intersection of Caroline and 17th streets, according to the fire department. A fire broke out while people were inside, and the 17th street side of the house caught on fire. The fire spread to two vehicles parked on the street outside the home. They were deemed total losses. The fire department was unsure Sunday if the vehicles belonged to the Caroline residents. Two nearby houses also sustained heat damage.

Firefighters arrived on scene by 5:04 p.m. and had the fire under control “fairly quickly,” with everyone clearing the scene by 6:50 p.m., according to the fire department. No one was reported injured.
