PEKIN — A woman who died after she was transferred from Tazewell County’s jail to a hospital in March succumbed to natural causes, an autopsy determined.
Tina Wood, 39, of Creve Coeur, died from complications related to alcoholism, county Coroner Jeff Baldi said this week.
She complained of abdominal pains on March 21 and was taken to UnityPoint Health-Pekin, a county Sheriff’s Department spokesman said. Wood was conscious then, but died at the hospital about three hours later.
After her arrest on Feb. 2 for battery and other misdemeanor charges, she was assigned to a medical cell was under 24-hour monitoring, the spokesman said. Wood had also been seen multiple times by a nurse assigned to the jail, he said.
Her treatment at the jail prior to her death was investigated by the Illinois State Police.
