NORTH PEKIN — A second Tazewell County resident has won $1 million from an Illinois Lottery scratch-off game.
North Pekin resident Joe Weis, 57, won one of the 35 top prizes of $1 million in the $300,000,000 Cash Spectacular game, a $10 instant ticket. So far, 24 of the prizes have been claimed.
Weis and his wife Patty will be sharing the prize with their five children. He took the prize as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $600,000.
"Everyone in town has been congratulating me on my big win," the 38-year resident of the community said in a news release provided by the Illinois Lottery.
He bought his ticket at West Peoria's Circle K, 3016 W. Farmington Road. The store received a $10,000 bonus for selling the ticket.
Of the 35 million-dollar prizes available, two have now gone to Tazewell County residents. Peggy Thomas of Marquette Heights won $1 million in the same game last month, and also elected to take the $600,000 lump sum payment.
