1914 - 2017

Alison E. “Babe” Himmel, 102, of Forest City, passed away Thursday, Jan. 12, 2017, at Havana Health Care.

She was born March 23, 1914, in rural Manito, the daughter of Allison D. and Lulu L. Singley Meeker. She married Virgil O. Himmel Oct. 6, 1934, in Manito and he preceded her in death Sept. 19, 1993.

She was proceeded in death by one son, Keith; one daughter, Patia Vance; one grandson, Danny Vance; one granddaughter, Kim Himmel; and four sisters.

Surviving are one son, Daniel (Carol) Himmel, of Manito. She has six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Alison was a teacher, having taught in the area local school districts including Tyndal School at Glasford and at Forman at Manito. She retired after 22 years of teaching in 1976. She was a charter member of the Forest City Community Church and a member of the Mason County Retired Teachers Association.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 16, at Forest City Community Church. The Rev. Tom Guengerich will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church, starting at 10 a.m.

Interment will be in Meadow Lawn Cemetery Manito.
