1923 - 2017
Ted A. Runyon, 93, of Delavan, passed away at 5:25 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2017, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
He was born July 27, 1923, in Delavan to Arch and Emma Floyd Runyon. He married Elizabeth Barnes Dec. 18, 1948, in Delavan, and she passed away March 4, 2002. He later married Marjorie Westfall Prewitt April 14, 2007, in Delavan, and she survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Patricia L. (Steven) Connell of Pekin and Barbara S. Torres of Normal; six grandchildren, Paige (Brent) Nafziger, Lance Connell, Philip Torres, Matt (Erin) Runyon, Monica (Brent) Hinz and Marissa (Curtis) Robison; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Michael Runyon; four brothers, Howard, Earl, Don and Richard; and one sister, Ethel Mae.
He served in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II, as a mechanic in Italy from 1943 to 1945.
Ted worked at Heineken International Harvester as a mechanic from 1945 to 1948. He was partners in the Ford Dealership, known as Runyon and Watson, in Green Valley and Delavan from 1956 to 1976. He farmed in the Delavan area from 1948 to 2004.
He was a member of Crosswalk Fellowship in Delavan, where he was baptized on his 85th birthday. He was a member of the Delavan American Legion and VFW, NRA and Tazewell County Farm Bureau.
He loved working on Model T cars and gas engines.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13, at Davis-Oswald Funeral Home in Delavan. The Rev. Steve Wagoner and the Rev. Albert Lynn will officiate.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, also at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Prairie Rest Cemetery in Delavan.
