Class 2A No. 5 Tremont couldn’t break away from Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley Friday night at Tremont in a battle of Heart of Illinois Conference unbeatens. 

The Turks and Falcons were tied 31-31 at halftime, but Tremont (14-0, 5-0) outscored GCMS (11-3, 4-1) 15-10 in the third quarter to find separation on its way to a 65-59 victory.

Tremont got 22 points from Conor Honan and 16 points from Max Bolliger. The pair combined to go 16-of-22 from the free throw line. As a team the Turks knocked down 23-of-32 foul shots.

Tucker Runyon chipped in nine points from Tremont. 

Mitch McNutt scored 18 points for GCMS. Ryland Holt and Bryce Barnes each added 11 points and  Tucker Cribbett scored 12.

The Falcons knocked down seven 3-pointers compared to two for the Turks.


Ryan Altenberger scored 11 points in the fourth quarter for Morton to move past East Peoria 57-38 in a Mid-Illini Conference game at East Peoria.

Altenberger finished with 31 points and Barik Olden scored 10 for Morton (11-3, 5-0). 

The Potters led by only six at halftime, but outscored the Raiders 29-16 in the second half. 

East Peoria (4-6, 1-3) got 10 points from Cole Morton and nine apiece from Brock Crippen and Elijah Bennett.


Levi Scheuermann scored a game-high 20 points for Dee-Mack and Nick DeBolt poured in 19 points and the Chiefs got back to their winning ways with a 63-49 Heart of Illinois Conference win over Heyworth.

Dee-Mack (8-6, 3-0) raced out to a 10-point lead after the first quarter and never looked back

Dawson Jones scored nine points and Neal Scheuermann added six for the Chiefs.

Tate Eller scored 12 points for Heyworth and Matt Schultz and Lukas Reinthaler each scored 10 points.
