Sara Frances Arvin, 88, of Pekin, passed away at 5:40 a.m. Friday, Dec. 30, 2016, at Hallmark House Nursing Center in Pekin.
Born April 11, 1928, in Gordon, Ga., to Fred and Cora Luther Brooks. She married Glendon Arvin Aug. 25, 1982, in Kentucky. He passed away in January 1988.
Surviving are three sons, Randy (Debbie) Bassette of Pekin, Holmes (Brigitte) Bassette Jr. of Grand Junction, Colo., and Steven Michael (Kathy) Bassette of Gallatin, Tenn.; two daughters, Dorothy (David) Jacobs of Clanton, Ala., and Margaret Elizabeth (Tom) Achterberg of Raleigh, N.C.; nine grandchildren, Jessie (Jim) O’Brien of St. Charles, Mo., Gabriel Bassette of Pekin, Holmes (Michelle) Bassette III of San Bernadino, Calif., Shiu Mei Bassette of Austin, Texas, Jennifer (Chadwick) Cutts of Grand Junction, Colo., Shane Bassette of Nashville, Tenn., Mary Beth (Don) Cagle of Alabama, Joseph (Natasha) Achterberg of Raleigh, N.C., and Nikki Morgan-Achterberg of Knoxville, Tenn.; and nine great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her good friend, Joyce Goodwin of Pekin.
Sara had worked at Hunts Restaurant in Peoria for many years. She had also worked in the cafeteria for the Pinnelas County school system in Florida, retiring in 1993.
She enjoyed quilting, altering clothes and adult coloring books, but her family was her life. She even took care of her family’s pets, while they were working. She will also be remembered for her amazing pecan pies.
Cremation will be accorded.
Private burial of cremated remains will be at a later date in Oak Grove Cemetery in LeRoy.
