The stellar story of ships of a different type comes to Riverfront Museum when “Rogue One,” a spinoff of the Star Wars film franchise, premieres at the museum’s Giant Screen Theater Thursday, mooring alongside “Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition.”

“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” will premiere Dec. 15 at 7 pm in 2D and 10 pm in RealD 3D, and will show daily through Jan. 12.

The premiere kicks off with a live broadcast of the “Coffee with Kenobi” podcast from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the theater lobby. The podcast is hosted by national Star Wars contributor Dan Zehr, a Washington Community High School teacher, and his co-host Cory Clubb. Zehr, who has been featured in Target’s Star Wars TV commercials, uses Star Wars mythology to teach critical thinking and literary constructs to his high school classes.

Nissan’s 2017 Rogue SUV – Rogue One Star Wars edition – will be on display in the lobby.

Before the film at 6:30 p.m., Dome Planetarium curator Renae Kerrigan will give a short talk about realistic interstellar travel.  “I’ll talk about cool stuff happening in our galaxy and the technology and efforts behind those real space missions,” says Kerrigan.

Museum visitors are invited to see a 3D printer in action and purchase 3D Star Wars ornaments for $2 per ornament (covers cost). They can also craft handmade Star Wars ornaments, supplies included, free with admission. “Holiday Boredom Busters: Star Wars Ornaments” (3D and handcrafted) will also take place Dec. 15, 4-6 p.m. and Dec. 16 and 17, 2:30-6:30 p.m.

Additional Star Wars programming begins Dec. 17 with “Space Cantina: Pub Night in a Galaxy Far, Far Away,” 7-9 p.m. at Dome Planetarium. Costumes are encouraged and the event includes beer along with an exploration of exoplanets around alien suns. Another Space Cantina Pub Night will take place Jan. 14.

“Wine & Art Night: Star Wars Art” will take place Jan. 7, 7-9 p.m. at the museum’s studio 2, hosted by the Dome Planetarium’s Jake Daleske. Participants will create a Star Wars logo painting and variety of wine throughout the event.
