That’s the amped-up name of an annual wrestling competition Pekin is hosting Saturday.
Nine teams from across central and southern Illinois will converge at Dawson Hawkins Gym for a morning and afternoon of dual matches.
“Some teams will have three matches. Some will have four. Some will have five,” said Pekin coach John Jacobs.
The Dragons (5-2) will face Belleville East, Collinsville, Mascoutah and Mahomet-Seymour in four consecutive matches starting at 10 a.m.
Belleville East and Collinsville are the only Class 3A teams in the field along with Pekin. Class 2A Bloomington, Mattoon, Rochester and Troy Triad are the other teams.
Rochester is a new entry into the fray. Eight teams usually compete.
Jacobs said he likes the super duals format compared to an invitational.
“Most of our kids will wrestle four times (Saturday),” he said. “If you lose your first two matches at most invitationals, you’re done for the day.”
Bloomington, Collinsville and Triad have traditionally strong wrestling programs, Jacobs said.
Pekin and Bloomington normally rotate hosting the super duals competition, with Pekin last hosting in 2013.
Bloomington hosted in 2014 but Mascoutah hosted in 2015 because Pekin and Bloomington each had a gym scheduling conflict with basketball.
An all-day pass Saturday is $5 for adults, $3 for students (K-12) and senior citizens. Concessions will be available.
