Thomas Packman, a member of Washington Boy Scout Troop 163, was recently awarded the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest award given by the Boy Scouts of America.

Packman’s Eagle Scout project benefited the Washington Park District, Washington Middle School and Calvary Mennonite Church’s Youth Group mission trip fund.

Packman planned and coordinated the inventory and disposition of several rooms filled with items left in the Washington Park District’s new home after Washington Middle School moved out.

After the inventory was complete, WMS faculty determined they did not want any of the items left in the building.

Unwanted items were tagged for disposition and removed for recycling, transported to be sold at a church garage sale or discarded if unusable.

Along with gaining usable space, the park district received the proceeds from recycling more than 7,600 pounds of metal, which helped cover dumpster costs.

Packman is the son of James and Julie Packman and brother of Alicia Packman.

His grandparents are Fred and Teresa Lemkemann of East Peoria and Harry and Joan Packman of Metamora.

Packman is a senior at Washington Community High School.
