Around Town items may be submitted for fundraisers, events offered by nonprofit organizations and entertainment. We reserve the right to edit all submissions. LENTEN FISH FRY, 5-7 p.m. April 3, Knights of Columbus Hall, 120 Walnut St., Washington. All-you-can-eat fish, baked potato, salad and bread.

CROSSROADS UNITED METHODIST CHURCH Easter party, 9:30-10:45 a.m. April 4. Easter egg hunt, 11 a.m. Children must be accompanied by an adult at the hunt. Ages: 3 years-3rd grade. Pre-registration required. Call Church office, 444-2381.

CHRISTIAN WOMEN’S CONNECTION “Spring Style Showcase” luncheon and style show, from 12:30 p.m.-2 p.m. April 22, Countryside Banquet Facility, 659 School St., Washington. Presentation of spring fashions by Cato, a ladies apparel shop located near Washington Wal-Mart. Speaker: Kerrie Oles from Dallas. Cost: $14, includes lunch, program, tax and gratuity. Reservations due April 16. Free child-care available by reservation only. Call Joy at 266-9254 or Peggy at 263-4054 for reservations or info.

RED CROSS babysitting class for children age 12 and older, 9 a.m.-12:30, April 6 and 7, Washington District Library. Fee: $50. Pre-registration required.  Register by stopping at library,  or calling 444-2241.

SPRING BOOK SALE, sponsored by the Friends of the Washington Library pre-sale, April 24. First day of sale, April 25. Donated books now accepted at the library. No out-of-date texts, magazines or religious tracts. For info, call 444-7621, or the library, 444-2241.

FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT at Washington District Library, 6:30-7:30 p.m. April 2. Movie: “Rumpelstiltskin.”

MEETINGS

WASHINGTON FINE ARTS SOCIETY meeting, 6:30 p.m. April 7, Washington District Library, 380 N. Wilmor. Many embers will bring personal artwork in line with this month’s theme, wet/water. Update on non-profit status. Presentation on Rene’ Magritte.

SCHOOL

ST. PATRICK SCHOOL information night for pre-kindergarten, ages 3 and 4, 6:30-7:30 p.m. March 25, Knights of Columbus Hall, 120 Walnut St., Washington. Dessert and coffee available.

WCHS After Midnight Celebration, midnight-4:30 a.m. April 26, Washington Community High School. Businesses and individuals may donate gift certificates, promotional items, and/or cash for door prizes or for supplies needed for the various activities. Volunteers also needed. WASHINGTON DISTRICT 52 annual Spring Carnival from 4-7:30 p.m. March 28, Lincoln Grade School. Open to public. Raffle, silent auction, carnival games and food.

WASHINGTON COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL referendum committee will canvas Washington neighborhoods from 9 a.m.-noon March 28 and April 4. Your friends will be visiting with you, their neighbors, to share vital information in support of the WCHS building renovation/addition referendum in advance of the April 7 election.

WASHINGTON COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL choirs annual spring concert, 7 p.m. April 20, Caterpillar Performing Arts Center at Five Points Washington. Music of many styles and time periods featured. MAKE A BLANKET DAY to benefit Project Linus, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. April 8, Jones Sewing Machine Co., 3410 N. Prospect Road, Peoria. Project Linus provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets. Sewing machines and fabric squares
provided. Fleece will be provided for those not wanting to sew. Bring favorite notions, such as scissors, pins, etc., and lunch.
