The Book Nook is a monthly book review written by Washington Community High School book club members.
“Alanna, the First Adventure,” written by Tamora Pierce, is the first of a series. This book is about a girl,
Alanna, who trades places with her twin brother, so that she can train for knighthood.
Alanna struggles to hide that she is a girl while making friends, enemies and keeping up with her studies.
This book covers a four-year span, as Alanna trains as a page to become a squire.
It is a compelling story of a girl trying to be as skilled as the boys. Every problem and every solution is written
in a way that makes you want to continue reading and turning to the next page. This book is an excellent read for anyone who enjoys medieval fantasy.
“Alanna, the First Adventure” is the first out of four books in the Song of the Lioness series. Tamora Pierce has written many other series, and they only get better.
