The prompt arrival of the well equipped fire department saved the many homes on Pekin avenue Hill, when a fire broke out in the Joe Rebholz home on 312 Pekin avenue Saturday morning.
The call was made at five-fifty 5:50 a.m. and in a very few minutes the truck was moving up Pekin avenue hill and by six o'clock three hose lines were playing on the houses in the vicinity. The local truck is equipped with a good pumping apparatus and in spite of the location of the fire in relation to the resevoir, good pressure was maintained.
The three lines were laid from fire plug, well and cistern. The residents in the Rebholz home were asleep when the fire broke out, blocking the doors, the children were forced to slide down the porch posts in their night clothes.
The interior of the house was entirely gutted leaving but four walls standing.
