Not only did the Panthers have a big year on the field — their third-place finish in the Mid-Illini Conference All-Sports standings was their best since '05-06 — they also excelled in the clasroom.
Seventy-four WCHS seniors were named to the M-I Academic-Athletic Honor Roll. That was an increase of 25 percent from the previous year's 59.
No doubt some of the athletes were lifted by success in their sport(s) to seek academic achievement as well. And vice versa.
Many of these graduates will be set up for future success in a variety of endeavors because of the skills they honed taking on the challenge of being scholars and varsity athletes.
